Lopez McHugh, LLP has a long history of handling product liability lawsuits, from incidents involving a single person, to mass tort cases involving multiple persons injured by medical devices. Some of the common product cases we handle include:
» Complete® MoisturePLUS™ - a multi-purpose contact lens solution manufactured by Advanced Medical Optics, Inc., it has been found to contain a microorganism that causes a potentially blinding eye infection.
» Drug-Eluting Heart Stents - these stents are inserted into arteries to prop them open, and they are coated with a medication that is intended to prevent clotting. However, many people are experiencing the opposite effect and suffering potentially fatal blood clots.
» Bard Kugel Composix Mesh Patch - manufactured by Bard, these patches are used in the treatment of ventral hernias. They have flexible recoil rings that allow the device to be folded for insertion through a small incision and then spring back into shape once in place, but there have been numerous reports of these devices breaking and causing severe internal injuries.
» Mectronic Sprint Fidelis® Defibrillator Lead - Medtronic, inc. began making defibrillator electrodes out of thinner wire than they had in the past. These thinner wires are prone to fracturing within a person's blood vessels, causing the defibrillators to misread heart rhythms and deliver unnecessary shocks or failing to delivery life-sustaining shocks.
» Gadolinium-based contrast agents
- Gadolinium is a toxic material frequently used as a contrast agent for MRIs. People with kidney problems have trouble excreting the material and can experience serious, possibly fatal, injuries from the toxicity.
